Vintage Kodachrome Slides - Dogs

Image
Photographers have been drawn to animal subjects since the invention of cameras with dogs being number one in my opinion. Searching through estate lots of amateur slides, I find just as many dog photos as I do ones of babies. These photos are all from the 1960s. Photographers unknown. Kodachrome of the day - Man selling slides in Europe

Image
I love this Kodachrome because this photo captures something that probably doesn't exist anymore. A street vendor selling slides.  These sets contained professionally photographed pictures of all the famous places you would be most likely to visit on your vacation. The picture below is a set that the vendor most likely had for sale. Some of the photos in this set included these gems. Check out these amateur kodachromes of Rome . I think these are better than the professional ones.

Kodachrome Slide of the day - looking at slides

Image
I just love this photo. It is what I do several times a day. I own several different slide and photo viewers but my aging eyes seem to work best with holding them up to a light source with a magnifying glass. I don't know the location of this shot but I'm going to guess Italy. if you recognize the building, I would love to know what it is.

1961 Little Boy Smoking Winston cigarettes with Granny

Image
When I buy a box lot of slides from an estate auction, I usually have no clue what I am going to find and get really excited when an unusual or offbeat photo shows up. This slide of a little boy imitating his grandmother smoking a cigarette is my cool find for the day. In today's society a photo like this posted to Facebook would cause quite an uproar and comments from friends with parenting advice.

Kodachrome Display at St Patrick TTC Subway Station Toronto

Image
Last month I was thrilled to come across this wonderful public installation of Kodachrome at St Patrick Subway station in Toronto. The display was part of the Scotiabank Contact Photography Festival and featured photographs taken by Chris Lund, a self-taught photographer who worked for the National Film Board of Canada. You can read more about the installation here.
